Canada's New Regulation on Sanitizers Has Taken Effect
On May 31, 2025, a new regulation governing sanitizers under Canada’s Food and Drugs Act officially came into effect, establishing a unified regulatory framework for surface disinfectants and sanitizers (collectively referred to as sanitizers). These new rules replace previous authorizations granted under the Food and Drug Regulations (FDR) or the Pest Control Products Act (PCPA).

South Korea Seeks Public Comments on Draft Amendment to Imported Food Declaration and Inspection Regulation
On July 2, 2025, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) of South Korea issued Announcement No. 2025-289, proposing a partial amendment to the “Regulation on Declaration and Inspection of Imported Foods”. The main contents of the proposed amendment are as follows:1. Relaxation of Classification Criteria for Similar Imported Foods from the Same Company Previously, even if the same fish species was used, products with different forms or processing methods could not be considered the same product.

Hong Kong Suspends Imports of Poultry Meat&Poultry Products from Certain Regions of South Korea
​The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department today (July 8) announced that, in response to a notification from the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) regarding outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in Gimhae-si, Gyeongsangnam-do and Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do, South Korea, the CFS has immediately instructed the trade to suspend the import of poultry meat and poultry products (including eggs) from the affected areas in order to protect public health in Hong Kong.
